There’s a big reason why Youtube has so many “How to take better Senior Pictures” videos. There is an endless plethora of tutorials and they are geared toward PHOTOGRAPHERS. Especially BEGINNER photographers. Unfortunately, that means not all High School Senior photographers are made equal.
Google “Awkward Senior Pictures” and watch the cringe unfold.
Don’t just ask: How much? I know its an important question, but price doesn’t prove expertise.
Instead, ask these questions:
Do you give posing directions? (The answer should be Yes!)
Do you assist with outfits? (If the answer is NO, that may mean risking less than stellar images. Outfits are a big part of Senior portraits).
How do you pick locations? (Should be based on outfits. Street Style clothing doesn't belong in a blossoming meadow).
Do you edit blemishes? (Should be yes, but they may charge extra for it. Automatik doesn’t charge to remove blemishes. In a way, photography is my artwork and partly represents me. Can you imagine Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa with blemishes? Me neither.)
Don’t be afraid to ask these questions. The better a Senior Photographer is, the clearer their answers will be. Believe me, most of us want to WOW you with our skill level and aren’t at all offended by these inquiries.
